Description: In 1990 through the support of the Abe Wouk Foundation we began a series of interviews for a lengthy life history memoir with Senator Abraham A. Ribicoff of Connecticut. Senator Ribicoff began his career as a judge in Connecticut and then served as congressman and governor of that state. A close friend and confidante of John F. Kennedy, he became secretary of Health Education and Welfare when Kennedy was elected president. In 1962 he was elected to the United States Senate where he remained until 1980. During that time he established himself as one of the most important and productive members of that body, serving as chairman of the Finance Committee and the Government Operations Committee.
