Description: Jim Long was interviewed at his home in Ardfinnan Co. Tipperary. Jim still lives on the small farm where he was born in 1921. He describes a frugal childhood during the 1920s and '30s of food scarcities following the Great War and later hardships incurred during de Valera's economic war with England. This had a major impact on small farmers and cattle producers such as Jim's family.
