| Description: |
The interview with Patrick Reynolds took place at his home on 11th September, 2000. Patrick was born in Rooskey, Co. Roscommon in 1936 and has lived in this area for the duration of his life. Patrick is a non- emigrant who was fortunate to be employed locally all his life. He speaks of a happy, carefree childhood, reared in the countryside and playing in the fields amongst loads of young people. He has warm memories of his schooldays, and walking 2 miles to school with his neighbours. Patrick left school in 1945 at the age of 13 and a half. Children were excused a great deal from school at this time as there was extra tillage and jobs to be done around the farm during the war years so this was acceptable. He had to leave school to work on the farm and his first job apart from that was with Leitrim County Council in 1946 as a labourer where he earned £1.10 a week for 48 hours work...
