Description: Hazel Moore grew up on her uncle Chinnery's farm near Ballymoney, Ballineen in West Cork. There was an active Church of Ireland community with it's own primary school where Mrs Daunt taught about thirty six pupils that were collected from around the parish in a small van. Hazel has very happy memories of her childhood and schooling. She read alot and describes her family as self- educated scholars. Her uncle Chinnery had a 50 acre mixed farm that produced different varieties of vegetables and seed potatoes. Hazel went to board at Bandon Grammar school in the mid 1940s where there were about one hundred pupils, boys and girls. There, she became an avid sportsperson and played hockey, tennis, squash and on occasions, cricket. Bandon Grammar played in leagues with many other Cork schools both Protestant and Catholic. From an early age Hazel found school an enjoyable experience and decided to become a primary school teacher herself. She qualified from the Church of Ireland Training College in Dublin in 1955.
