Description: (USAF) John R. Currey, originally from Vicksburg, Mississippi, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 until 1983 and retired a Lieutenant Colonel. He first served in the Southeast Asian Theater between 1962 and 1965 as a C-130 pilot in the 345th Troop Carrier Squadron based at Naha AFB, Okinawa, Japan. From there he flew missions in South Vietnam, among other places, hauling supplies, troops, and other materials. John went back to Southeast Asia in 1966, again as a C-130 pilot, with the 772nd Tactical Airlift Squadron based at Sabu AFB, The Philippines, and flew many supply and transport missions in South Vietnam. After a year, he transferred to the 440th Aircraft Delivery Group at Clark AFB, The Philippines, and served as Operations Officer for two years before returning to the United States. In total, John piloted 420 combat missions in the C-130 in Southeast Asia. OH0265 - part of the John Currey Collection
