(USMC, USAF) Gerald L. Kumpf, originally from Lexington, Nebraska, served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 until 1966 and the U.S. Air Force from 1967 until 1982. He first went to Vietnam in 1966 with the 115th VMFA Squadron stationed at Danang in aircraft support as an Aircraft Electricians Mate and Plane Captain. After his tour was finished, Gerald left the Marines in 1966 but joined the Air Force the next year. With the Air Force, he rotated in and out of Southeast Asia over the next fifteen years in Taiwan, Okinawa, Thailand, Guam, The Philippines, and South Korea. During this time, Gerald served as an Aircraft Instrument Technician, Avionics Systems Technician, Airborne Avionics Systems Technician, and Avionics Systems Superintendent. While in Thailand, Gerald worked in aircraft support with Air America at Udorn, Ubon, and Takhli supporting the U.S. war effort in Laos. OH0276 - part of the Gerald Kumpf Collection
