Peggy Mikelonis grew up and attended nursing school in Des Moines, Iowa. She joined the Army Nurse Corps through the Student Nurse Program in 1969. After Basic training at Fort Sam Houston and a year stationed at Redstone Arsenal Army Hospital (1970-1971) in Huntsville, Alabama, Peggy volunteered for assignment in Vietnam. She was stationed at the 3d Surgical Hospital in Binh Thuy from June 1971 to April 1972 where she worked on the Vietnamese Ward and in the Emergency Room. Since 1972, Peggy has worked in the James A.
