(USN) (POW) James Mulligan entered the United States Navy in 1944 at the age of seventeen. He eventually became a fixed wing aviator and flew A-1 Skyraiders and A-4 Skyhawks. In 1965, Captain Mulligan served with CAG9, 76th Squadron, onboard the USS Enterprise in the South China Sea. On March 20, 1966, while flying A-4 missions over North Vietnam, Captain Mulligan was shot down and captured. He remained in captivity in the Hanoi Hilton until the prisoner release in 1973.
