Description: (USAF, USA) Joseph L. Pizzo, originally from Houston, Texas, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 until 1970 and in the U.S. Army from 1971 until 1976. In the USAF, Joseph was stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware with the 95th Fighter Interceptor Squadron from June 1967 until July 1969. From there he was transferred to the 18th Special Operations Squadron at Lockborne AFB, Ohio, where he stayed until being shipped out to Vietnam in October 1969. In Vietnam, Joseph was stationed at Phan Rang AB until January 1970 and then moved to Phu Cat AB where he stayed until his tour ended in April 1971. At Phu Cat, his main job was as a Fire Control System Mechanic on the AC-119K Gunship, but he also worked as a cook in the Airman's Club, a Military Affiliate Radio Station (MARS) operator, and as manager of the base Photo Hobby Shop. After returning home, he enlisted in the Army in late 1971 and, in May 1973, after extensive training, including Officer Candidate School, Airborne School, and Signal Officer Basic, was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, with the 124th Signal Battalion. Joseph was then transferred to the 4th Division Artillery as the Divarty Commo Platoon Leader and, in 1975, after being transferred to Military Intelligence and school at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, was transferred to the 374th Army Security Agency, Division Support Company at Ft. Carson as Assistant Operations Officer. Joseph retired from the Army in 1976.
