Description: (USAF) Fain H. Pool, originally from Indiahoma, Oklahoma, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 until 1970. Before going to Southeast Asia, Fain flew B-17s over Europe in World War II, flew in the Berlin Airlift, was a B-29 pilot in the Korean War, and a test pilot for the U.S. nuclear program in the 1950s based out of Kirtland AB in New Mexico. He went to Southeast Asia in 1963 as Commander of the 421st Air Refueling Squadron and flew air refueling missions out of Yokoda, Japan, including the first air refueling mission in the Vietnam War in August 1964. In 1965, Fain became Commander of the 6091st Reconnaissance Squadron at Yokoda and flew missions all over East and Southeast Asia. In 1966, he was transferred to McCord AFB in Washington and became Chief of Operations and Training for the 62nd Air Base Group. From McCord, Fain flew C141s monthly into Vietnam, a position he kept until he retired from the USAF in 1970. OH0278 Collection Unavailable
