Description: (USMC) Cornelius B. "Neil" Whitehurst, originally from Bethel, North Carolina, served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1964 until 1967, the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 until 1976 on active duty, and in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1976 until 1994. Neil went to South Vietnam in 1970 and was stationed at Marble Mountain AB with the 1st Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 36, HML-367 as an AH-1G Cobra gunship pilot. He flew over 860 missions over the RVN and Laos before leaving Vietnam in 1971. Neil retired as a Colonel in the USMC Reserve. OH0318 - part of the Cornelius Whitehurst Collection
