DeLane Griffin was born in Escalante, Utah in 1924. He was raised at the sheep herd and later 'rode for cattle'. He and his brothers shared summer grazing permits on the Fifty Mile Mountain and winter permits on the Escalante Desert. He is still running cattle on the Fifty with his son Quinn and brother Gene.
