Clarence Magee was born in 1932 in Columbia, Mississippi, to Glessie and Ora Bell Magee. He was the oldest of ten children and was raised working on his parents' farm.
Mr. Magee graduated from high school in 1949, graduated with a bachelor's degree from Alcorn in 1954, and attended graduate school at Harvard. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany.
