| Description: |
Miss Eleanor Sinclair was born and reared in Pass Christian, Mississippi. She completed the eighth grade, which was the highest grade a black student could complete in public schools at Pass Christian at that time. She worked at home, keeping house and taking care of her younger brothers and sisters. When they were older, she went to New Orleans and attended a private commercial school. She worked in factories in New Orleans for several years, then enrolled in Louisiana State Barber College. She worked as a barber in New Orleans, then returned to Pass Christian and opened a barber shop near her home. She worked there for many years, until her mother's failing health required her constant attention.
