Dr. Sam Spinks was born on March 19, 1921, in Henleyfield, Mississippi. His parents were Luther Spinks and Vivian Smith Spinks. He has two sisters.
Dr. Spinks attended school at Henleyfield High School, Pearl River Junior College, The University of Southern Mississippi and The University of Florida. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Force in North Africa during World War II.
