Mrs. Ruth Evans Story was born on October 20, 1943, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her father was Wilson Evans, a longshoreman and president of the International Longshoreman's Association in Gulfport. Her mother was Valeria Turner Evans. Her memories of childhood are happy ones of grandparents and parents, aunts and uncles, cousins and lots of family gatherings. Additionally, church was an important part of life when Mrs. Story was growing up. Education was supported and even required in her family. She was graduated from high school and attended Dillard University in New Orleans. On October 18, 1962, Ms. Ruth Evans married Almer L. Story in Gulfport.
