Description: Trevor's father was an army man and he traveled a lot as a child overseas and in Australia. He attended primary and secondary school in Gladstone, South Australia, near Port Pirie before deciding to be a doctor and changing schools. He enrolled at Melbourne High School in 1957 to finish his secondary education and then attended Melbourne University in 1961 to train in medicine. Trevor joined the army medical corp as a lieutenant in 1965 in the 4th year of his degree. He spent time training at the Army School of Health, Healesville, and was posted to Townsville in the Task Force medical clinic for the 6 Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) Infantry Battalion. In May 1969 he was sent to Vietnam as the Regimental Medical Officer for the 6 RAR. During his tour of duty Trevor camped in the Battalion Head Quarters in Nui Dat. In July 1969 he was wounded during a medical rescue of soldiers in A Company platoon when someone stepped on a land mine and it went off. Trevor lost his sight in both eyes and injured his legs. He was sent to an American hospital in Vietnam, then to Butterworth and home to Australia. He spent time recovering in the Hiedelberg Repatriation Hospital and learnt braille before enrolling in university to train as a psychiatrist. Trevor passed his psychiatry exams in 1973 and was appointed to a position at Royal Park Hospital in Melbourne.
