Description: Lewane was commissioned in the United States Army following his graduation from VMI in 1950 and rose to the rank of Colonel before retiring in 1974. This interview covers his entire military career and includes extensive information about his service in the Korean War, 1950-1953 (72nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division; 64th Tank Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division); the Vietnam War, 1965-1966 (1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry "Quarter Horse", 1st Division "Big Red One"); and his Cold War assignments in Germany (Commander, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, 1972-1973; Chief of Staff, U. S. Army Berlin, 1973-1974). The interview is accompanied by photographs.
