| Description: |
Alan Galloway is an internationally known geologist and scientist. Born in London in 1904, he was educated at Harrow and Kings College, Cambridge University, receiving his B.A. in Natural Sciences in 1925. That same year James joined Shell Oil Company and was sent to California. His first job was doing field work and micropaleontology at Bakersfield. While at this office, James and his Shell associate, Mr. Edwin Roy Weston, became involved in botany and collected rare Kern County wild flowers. They worked closely with Alice Eastwood at the California Academy of Sciences in an association that was to last a lifetime.
