| Description: |
Eugenie is the great-granddaughter of Maria Guadalupe Costello, and Edward Watson who built a saw mill in Monterey in 1824. She is also the granddaughter of James Watson, the only native-born Californian who saw service in the Civil War. Eugenie was born in San Rafael in 1907, and her father, Edward Watson, was born in San Rafael in 1887. She tells colorful stories of early San Rafael involving parades, personages, her father’s saloon, schooling and activities, social times, her working life, marriage, and children. At the time of the interview Eugenie was collecting material to write a book regarding life in San Rafael before the Golden Gate Bridge was constructed.
