| Description: |
Herbert’s great grandfather was Ignacio Pacheco, recipient of the Mexican land grant called Rancho de San Jose (6,600 acres). Herbert recalls Pacheco’s five-year litigation of the 1840 grant with the United States government, and the altercation with Captain Fremont in 1846. Herbert explains the division of the rancho to the heirs and the preservation of the 1880 Gumesendo Pacheco home, where, at the time of this interview he was residing. Herbert also describes his years with the American President Lines and his World War II experience.
