The daughter of a Louisiana cotton farmer, Betty tells of her years of public service, starting as a typist for the Marin County Free Library where she ultimately became a major department head. In 1978 she became the County’s Director of Citizen's Services. Betty’s public career included serving as President three times on the Sausalito School Board, a founding member of the Marin County Commission on the Status of Women, President of the Marin NWPC and its national Vice-President, Chair of the Marin Democratic Central Committee, board member of Marin General Hospital, and service on numerous local and regional boards. After retiring from county government, Betty became Administrative Director of the Marin City Project where she worked to improve the conditions of Marin City's residents.
