Longtime personal friend of Harry S. Truman. Served as a captain (U.S. Naval Reserve) during World War II with responsibility for Naval liaison with the Truman Committee as well as with other Congressional committees and Government agencies. Later served as a personal assistant to Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal. As a newspaper publisher and radio -- TV executive supported Truman for reelection in 1948.
