Description: In a lengthy letter, Shedd relates the story of a trap laid to capture a company out on picket. The rebel attack failed but the company soldiers disbanded and fled in fear. That same day, three other companies went out on patrol and several soldiers were captured, reportedly without a fight. Shedd asks his wife not to broadcast her knowledge of these affairs as the officers are worried about the image of the regiment.
