Description: Rosalind Cassidy, the first woman full professor at UCLA, began her teaching career at Mills College in Oakland before going to UCLA in 1948. She was instrumental in introducing modern dance on the West Coast when she was at Mills College and, later, at UCLA in converting the Physical Education department to a Department of Kinesiology. Beginning with her Mills days, Cassidy was committed to expanding women's athletics, at the same time that she was concerned about protecting girls and women from the kind of exploitation that male athletes experienced.
